Job Description

Overview Boston Arts Academy is a public high school for the visual and performing arts. We serve Boston high school students who aspire to be artists and leaders in the arts. We offer high-quality arts instruction in Visual Art and Design, Music, Theatre, Dance, and Multimedia Entertainment and Production. We also have three Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs: Fashion Technology, Digital Visual Communications, and Multimedia Entertainment and Production. We have approximately 490 students who engage in at least two hours of arts instruction each day, in addition to four hours of academic instruction aligned with Massachusetts state requirements and Common Core Standards. At BAA, students are immersed in an environment that fosters innovation, creativity, and personal growth. From redesigned classrooms to collaborative workspaces, we’ve created spaces that inspire students to think, dream, and achieve beyond boundaries. Our work goes far beyond the classroom, as we strive to create a nurturing environment that supports students’ emotional and mental health. This strong, caring community provides a safe and inspiring place for students to make a meaningful impact as scholars, artists, and global citizens. All of our programs include health and wellness components, social-emotional learning, and a commitment to partnering with families to support student learning. We also engage with our broader community through partner organizations like Zumix, Berklee College of Music (City Music program), Emerson College, Brighter Boston, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, The Huntington Theatre, Boston Ballet, and others. Many of these partners offer master classes, internships, class instruction, employment opportunities, and more for our students. With these partnerships, we aim to introduce our students to opportunities in the arts and leadership in the city of Boston, helping them identify their next steps after high school graduation. This summer, we will produce a professional play in association with The Huntington Theatre and Wheelock Family Theatre, in our new 500-seat space at BAA. We will involve many youth in various roles for this project, and we want to offer them paid opportunities due to the high caliber of the training and the demanding hours (at least 20 hours per week in June, July, and August). Key Duties and Responsibilities WITH ADULT MENTORS: - Organize and manage backstage operations during rehearsals and performances. - Operate the light board for rehearsals and performances. - Operate the sound board for rehearsals and performances. - Operate the projection system for rehearsals and productions. - Assist the Stage Manager by organizing tasks and taking notes during rehearsals and performances. The Ideal Candidate for this Job - Training or some experience working with theatrical lighting and sound equipment. - Ability to learn and adhere to general safety protocols. - Strong interest in technical theatre and production. - Availability to work nights and weekends. #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Boston
